The family of Amy Winehouse have released a statement revealing there is a ”gaping hole” in their lives following her death from a suspected overdose yesterday (23.07.11).
Amy Winehouse’s family have been left “bereft” by her death.
The ‘Rehab’ singer was found dead at her home in Camden, North London yesterday (23.07.11) after a suspected alcohol and drugs overdose and a statement today from her loved ones reveals the heartbreak they are battling.
The statement said: “Our family has been left bereft by the loss of Amy, a wonderful daughter, sister and niece. She leaves a gaping hole in our lives. We are coming together to remember her and we would appreciate some privacy and space at this terrible time.”
It is a very sad loss, of a very good friend, I spent great times with, she was such a beautiful singer, it is such a waste.
Amy’s family are not the only people struggling to cope with her loss. At his gig with The Faces in Hurtwood, Surrey, South East England last night, Absolute Radio DJ Ronnie Wood dedicated his performance of ‘I Would Rather Go Blind’ to the tragic 27-year-old singer.
He said: “It is a very sad loss, of a very good friend, I spent great times with, she was such a beautiful singer, it is such a waste.”
Queen’s Roger Taylor was in the crowd to watch the show and as he took to the stage he said “Tonight is about Amy, we lost a very special girl and we are going to pay tribute to her”.
Amy is survived by her father Mitch, mother Janis and brother Alex.

High life
Jul 24, 2011 Roger Taylor
On board S/Y Bushido, off Corfu
From my porthole I can see Roger Taylor — drummer of Queen — talking to his three blonde and beautiful daughters. The eldest, Rory, has just become a doctor, the other two are still kids, and there are also two very talented boys, not on board Tiger Lily, his boat. One of his sons is an extremely talented drummer, which I guess goes with the territory, as they say. Rock stars do not for typical loving families make, but Roger’s seems to be an exception.
Speaking of rockers, I could not have been more pleased about that turd Charlie Gilmour getting 16 months. I know, I know, he’s young and he was upset about his real old man, but this is lawyer bs. I would have given him 24 months, and an extra six for having cut his hair and for playing the victim. He’s nothing of the sort. He knew damn well what the Cenotaph is all about, and in any other civilised country he would have got more. Back in 1959, a drunken American student tried to light his cigarette from the eternal flame underneath the Arc de Triomphe, and got a year in a tough jail and a fine that broke his parents. That was then, this is now, and Charlie, as they call him, has had too many hacks asking for mercy, which means the fix is in.
And speaking of the fix, I predict Murdoch will get off and be allowed to purchase Sky, and everything will be hunky-dory once it blows over. Back in 1994, Sue Douglas and John Witherow hired me to write Atticus for the Sunday Times. Witherow proposed 80. ‘I get 80 from the Speccie,’ I told them. ‘Cut the crap,’ said Sue. ‘The Spectator doesn’t pay you 80,000 pounds per annum.’ The penny dropped and all I said was, ‘Where’s the contract? I’ll sign anything.’

Roger Taylor Sings To Murdoch Once Again
Jul 20, 2011 Roger Taylor
Earlier today a protestor threw a pie plate full of foam at Murdoch during the executive’s hearing before Parliament about the News of the World phone hacking controversy. Murdoch’s wife, Wendi Deng, reacted by appearing to hit the protestor. The protestor was later identified as Jonathan May-Bowels aka comedian Jonnie Marbles, according to the Guardian. He was arrested on suspicion of assault during a public meeting.
An announcement on QueenOnline.com says that Taylor is making his views “on the current Murdoch-gate dramas publicly heard” by re-releasing the tune “Dear Mr Murdoch.” The song was originally featured on the drummer’s third solo album, 1994’s Happiness?
After Taylor made some “subtle updates” to the track, it was posted on YouTube on Friday and will be available to purchase through iTunes sometime this week.
Sample lyrics include “Dear Mr Murdoch you’re a powerful man/You control half our media whose lifeblood is scam/And dear Mr Murdoch we’re not so amused/Just line up the people whose lives they’ve abused.”
QueenOnline.com points out that Taylor protested Murdoch’s attempt to buy the Manchester United Football Club in 1998 by funding the club supporters’ efforts to block the sale.
In other music news related to the News of the World scandal, one of the members of Parliament who questioned Murdoch today was Louise Mensch, formerly Louise Bagshawe.
The conservative MP and author recently married Peter Mensch, who is the co-president of Q Prime. The management company’s roster includes Metallica, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Josh Groban and Muse.
Mensch was in the middle of asking Murdoch her first question when he was hit with the pie plate of foam. A brief recess was called before the hearing resumed.
“My questions will be just as tough as ever they would have been, had that unfortunate incident not occurred,” Mensch said, according to the Associated Press.

Queen's Roger Taylor to rerelease anti-Murdoch song
Jul 20, 2011 Roger Taylor
Queen’s Roger Taylor is rereleasing his 1994 song Dear Mr Murdoch to mark the phone-hacking scandal involving Rupert Murdoch‘s News Corp. “The original lyrics speak for themselves,” Taylor said, making only “subtle updates” to the original.
Taylor is a long-time critic of Murdoch, chairman of News Corp. The Queen drummer was a staunch opponent of the media mogul’s attempted takeover of Manchester United in 1998. He donated £10,000 to the Independent Manchester United Supporters Association, which was protesting against Murdoch’s £623m bid. “I heard on the news that [they] desperately needed the means to mobilise [their] opposition to the mighty Goliath,” Taylor said at the time. “As I was in a position to help I felt compelled to do so.” Murdoch’s takeover bid failed.
Dear Mr Murdoch originally appeared on Taylor’s 1994 album, Happiness. He first reissued the song in 1998, during the proposed takeover of Manchester United. The song has again been resurrected this week – the “2011 version” has been posted to YouTube and will be on iTunes within days. “Dear Mr Murdoch,” Taylor sings over piano and electric guitar, “Your minions like vultures and carrion crow/ They’ve sunk just as low as humans can sink … How many time must they poke and they pry?”
Murdoch and his son James appeared before the Commons culture, media and sport select committee yesterday, answering questions from MPs on the News of the World phone-hacking scandal.
