Robbie Williams wants Freddie Mercury tattoo
Jul 31, 2011 Freddie Mercury
London, Jul 31 (PTI) British singer Robbie Williams is considering adding to his tattoo collection with an inking in memory of his idol Freddie Mercury.
The 37-year-old ”Angels” hitmaker has several pieces of body art, including a ”B” behind his left ear in honour of his late grandma Betty, and the words ”Elvis, Grant Me Serenity” on his right arm as a tribute to Elvis Presley.
And Williams is keen to commemorate his other hero, ”Queen” rocker Mercury, with an inking.
“I wanna get a Freddie Mercury tattoo. I”ve all ready.
I got an Elvis one. They were who they were and they can never let me down because unfortunately they are not here,” Williams wrote on his blog.

HecklerPlay: Pointless Reissues
Jul 29, 2011 Freddie Mercury
Want a sure-fire recipe to guarantee some sort of success in the music industry that’ll give you a life built on fine restaurants, Japanese stalkers and quality drugs? Who the hell doesn’t? Sadly, these days you only seem to sell huge amounts of records when you’re dead.
At least less success means that members of your family can benefit from the royalties! In the case of Amy Winehouse who sadly passed away this week, fans decide that they want to replace their illegal MP3s with legitimate copies of her work whilst the record label wobble over releasing demos of unreleased hits.
Still, nowhere near as bad a Queen who are still milking their fans.
Back in 1991, the world mourned the loss of Freddie Mercury who brought a refreshing and flamboyant approach to pop. With rock normally being known as a genre of chaos and destruction while Queen where there just to have fun. All the while, making videos which, back then, were pretty groundbreaking and shocking for that era. Kinky vacuuming was unheard of, but by a man in a skirt? Lordy!
Would Queen still be performing today and becoming something of a parody act like The Rolling Stones? Who knows, but we’re pretty confident that old Freddie would be pretty upset over fluff haired buffoon Brian May and chums who still find the time out of their schedule to reissue various Queen albums with pointless statistics attached.
On the 5th September, the albums – 1984′s The Works, 1986′s A Kind of Magic, 1989′s The Miracle, 1991′s Innuendo and 1995′s Made in Heaven – will be re-released. These releases aren’t for the average music fan who will have amassed their collection already, but for the Queen obsessive who froths at the mouth when they hear of their favourite bands name.
What is the significance of this re-issue? Well old Freddie would have been 65 years old. Perhaps the remaining band members are jealous that he’d be getting a free bus pass.
“The releases follow the reissues of Queen’s first ten albums earlier this year, as well as the remastered Greatest Hits collections. The albums also mark Queen’s 40th anniversary in the music business. A fourth release in the Queen: Deep Cuts compilations will be released as well.”
Basically, you won’t be able to move without seeing Brian May and his stupid Whitefro. Great.

Rhapsody in Bohemia
Jul 29, 2011 Freddie Mercury
In the three decades since the group Queen’s extravagant existentialist six minute pop production about ‘a poor boy’ who’d ‘just killed a man’ first topped the British charts, Bohemian Rhapsody has become woven into the musical, visual and literary fabric of all our lives – with the exception of Times music critic Hilary Finch who offers here an ‘innocent ear’ review, having somehow never heard it!
Other musicians and writers – including the classical singer Jane Manning, tribute band ‘Freddie Mercury’ Rob Comber, singer-songwriter (and unrepentant Queen fan) Andy Watts, film buff Tommy Pearson, broadcaster Andrew McGregor and the composer and former pop band member Joby Talbot – evaluate the song’s cultural legacy in this award-winning feature that includes glimpses of Queen themselves and reference to Camus, the Qur’an, commedia dell’arte and, of course, the film comedy Wayne’s World.
Producer: Alan Hall
A Falling Tree Production for BBC Radio 4.

Surviving members of Queen are set to dress as Freddie Mercury in tribute to the late frontman.
Guitarist Brian May, drummer Roger Taylor and friends and family of the singer will don fake black moustaches – reminiscent of the flamboyant frontman’s trademark facial hair – on what would have been his 65th birthday on September 5.
They will be joined by fans of the singer worldwide who will dress up as their hero – who died of complications related to AIDS in 1991 – competing to be the most outrageous, with prizes awarded for the “most creative Freddie outfits in the most unusual venues”.

Funds raised by fans’ efforts will go to support Trustees of the Mercury Phoenix Trust, which fights against AIDS across the world.
Brian has recently admitted coming to terms with the singer’s death has been “painful” and says his former bandmate is still a big part of his life.
He said: “I think about Freddie all the time, really. There certainly isn’t a day where I don’t have some sort of thought about him.
“I have been to extremes where I have found it very painful, and I couldn’t talk about him. But I don’t feel that anymore. He’s part of our lives, still, in a very real way.”
Queen’s last five albums are also set to be re-released on September 5, ‘The Works’, ‘A Kind of Magic’, ‘The Miracle’, ‘Innuendo’ and ‘Made in Heaven’.
